Details About Coaching Programs Components
-
We have years of experience helping college students succeed while navigating learning disabilities, ADHD, and building the Executive Function skills that support independence. This includes navigating accommodations, lifestyle choices that affect ADHD, and beliefs. We are experts at helping you manage your own brain, so you can reach your goals!
-
Communication is hard; let’s do it together. We host conference calls/meetings with your parents during the term to help connect about details, progress, and challenges. In addition, we can collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, and consultants to facilitate your comprehensive support.
-
We utilize an industry leading career, strengths and aptitude test called YouScience to give you more awareness about yourself, your gifts shine a little bit more light on your path forward. This is completed once during enrollment with Potentia Academics and will be debriefed with coach. *Can be waived by student
-
The foundation of your success is your collaboration with an expert academic coach that will help you implement strategies to reach your goals and tackle the obstacles in your way. Coaches meet with students once or twice a week, depending on your needs, with a shorter check-in included. Within this collaborative relationship we guide you to rely on your strengths and support your executive functioning to fuel your performance term to term.
-
Each week we host a 30 min online course and workshop to focus on the latest research and skills like Studying/Exam Prep, Self-management, Organization, Self-Advocacy, and more. This is open to all current Potentia students and allows opportunities to meet fellow students! Research continues to prove the effectiveness of explicit instruction of college skills and many colleges are adopting these valuable classes. Potentia founder Scott Rowles taught accredited versions of this course at the college level for over five years.
-
The most crucial component to a student’s (and adult’s!) week is the time they spend planning, previewing, and strategizing how they will use their time for the week. Our goal is to help you find a schedule/planner structure that works for you; not one imposed on you by others. On Mondays, we host a collaborative 15-30 min session online (after the College Success Skills course) for students to make a plan for the week and set themselves up for success.
…But Is Zoom Effective for Coaching…?
We work with students both in person and in Zoom, but since the COVID-19 pandemic has expanded our interconnectedness as humans through technology, we have seen continued benefits for meeting online with our college students. Among these benefits are:
Easier logistics for meeting, reducing travel time and interruptions from daily life (The logistics of arriving at an appointment in person is vastly more complicated if you have a LD).
Reduced anxiety from being at your location of choice during the meeting.
Increased ability to share technology and screens via Zoom to collaborate on planning or assignments.
You can literally attend any university or college in the world, and still collaborate.
We do love to meet in person when feasible, but have seen tremendous success from working with college students online. Want to see if distance or in-person is best for you? Reach out! Let’s talk.
